Prenatal Care

In order to receive prenatal care at RealOptions Obria Medical Clinics you need to establish yourself as a patient.  At your first appointment, we will schedule a pregnancy test, and if the test is positive, we will confirm your pregnancy through an ultrasound exam.

Your prenatal visit will generally be around 8 -10 weeks after your LMP (last menstrual period). Getting early and regular prenatal care improves the chances of a healthy pregnancy for you and your baby. It can also improve your overall birth experience. During your visit, the obstetrician or nurse practitioner will order lab work and perform a urinalysis, physical exam, and an ultrasound if necessary. They will also educate you on managing a healthy pregnancy.

Prenatal care is the healthcare we provide while you are pregnant. It includes checkups, education, testing, and more. Stay informed on the health of your pregnancy, what to expect, manage complications, and get answers to your questions.

Even if you are not a first-time mother, prenatal visits are still important since every pregnancy is different. This initial visit will probably be one of the longest. It will be helpful if you arrive prepared with important dates and information. This is also a good opportunity to bring a list of questions that you and your partner have about your pregnancy, prenatal care, and birth options.

What to Expect at Your First Pregnancy Appointment

Your healthcare provider will ask for your medical history, including:

  • Medical and/or psychosocial problems
  • Blood pressure, height, and weight
  • Breast and cervical exam
  • Date of your last menstrual period (an accurate LMP is helpful when determining gestational age and due date)
  • Birth control methods
  • History of abortions and/or miscarriages
  • Hospitalizations
  • Medications you are taking
  • Medication allergies
  • Your family’s medical history

We also provide the information you need to apply for Medi-Cal or private insurance and have transfer agreements with local hospitals for high-risk patients. Schedule a confidential appointment online or call one of our Bay Area RealOptions Obria Medical Clinics.
